One of the main reasons we moved downtown to a smaller place was to reduce our our time behind the wheel, which it has. However more importantly, we wanted to reduce the heating and cooling of our living space. Our previous rental had a lot of unneeded space that took more time and energy to heat.

This morning I read another article about green, prefab mini-homes, that take the economics and efficiencies to a much higher level. Here’s the link to article @ the Eugene Register Guard.

Here’s a couple of article quotes…

“People are dialing down their investment in homes and increasing investment in education or personal development.” he said.

The houses are green and “efficient in every possible way,” Russell said. Permeable pavement and sand filters outside deal with run off. Inside are certified green bamboo floors, dual flush toilets, tankless hot water heaters, ductless heat pumps, heavy insulation, highly efficient windows and Energy Star appliances.

Ideabox is the company mentioned in the article. Here are their latest models.
