Well ok. I pulled the plug on the cable box yesterday. It felt eerily like pulling life support on, well… not a person, but something more connected to my soul than an “object”. You hear all the jokes about a remote control being the extension of the male psyche. There may be some truth to it. It was very hard to pull all those plugs from the back of the TV, grab the box, then head out to Bend Broadband to return it.

I almost turned around as I neared the neighborhood exit. Really.

Nevertheless, it’s done. I’m not sure how I feel about it. Maybe I’m still in the process of going through the five stages of grief. During our past lunch breaks, we would usually get in the latest episode of the “Daily Show” which we had recorded the night before. Now with no Cable/DVR means no recording, which means no show on the big screen, nor skipping through commercials.

However, there are ways to limit the system shock. We are able to fulfill our “Daily” desire by going back to what we use to do – viewing it online on the small screen. So we can get our fix, for the most part. Hulu, as well as all the network sites have options. That said, my big unknown starts next month – College football. Hmm. We shall see if I break.

Fast forward a day  >>>>>>>>>>

So, it’s been a day since I dropped of the box at Bend Broadband. I just got off the phone with billing to see if I can consolidate my business phone and residential internet into one bill, since my internet has now become an “unbundled” service which raises the monthly fee another 10 spot.

Long of the short… to keep our internet service the SAME cost I can ADD basic cable to our plan for $10 a month. No DVR box – Hmm, OK. We now have basic cable.
